Bali is an island paradise filled with beautiful natural formation. One such hidden gem is the Paluang Cliff. It is a tall cliff that looks over the left side of the T-rex shaped cliff that is famous on social media. This blog has all the details you need to visit Paluang Cliff and have a wonderful time.

Where is Paluang Cliff?

Paluang Cliff, also known as Paluna Cliff, is one of the most stunning natural attractions in Bali. This beautiful place is located on the southeast coast of Nusa Penida Island. It takes 45 minutes to get to this island from Bali by ferry. From the ferry docking point it takes another 45 minutes to drive your scooter here. You can find the exact location on Google Maps.

How to Get to Nusa Penida

From Sanur Beach Harbor in Bali, a fast boat is available to take you to Nusa Penida. There are two other ports in Bali from where you can take a boat or ferry. The fast boats take 45 minutes and the slower ones take 1 hour to reach the Toka Pakeh harbor in Nusa Penida. There are two other ports in Nusa Penida but they are even further away towards the north east of the island.

How to Get to Paluang Cliff

Getting to the Paluang Cliff is relatively easy, and you have a few options depending on your preferred mode of transportation. Here are three popular ways to get there:

Scooter

If you’re comfortable riding a scooter, this can be a fun and affordable way to get to Paluang Cliff. You can rent a scooter from various rental shops in Bali for around IDR 60,000 – IDR 80,000 per day (approximately USD 4 – USD 6). Be sure to wear a helmet, and make sure your scooter is in good condition before you hit the road.

When you get off the ferry there are scooter shops right across from the port where you can rent a scooter for the day or as long as you want. Make sure to read the guide so you don’t get scammed out of any money.

Local taxi

Taxis are available everywhere in Nusa Penida, and you can easily hire one to take you to Paluang Cliff from the harbor.

Rent a car

Renting a car is a great solution if you are traveling in a group and prefer to be together. You can rent a car for around IDR 800,000 – IDR 1,200,000 (approximately USD 55 – USD 85) for a full day with a driver included. This will include pick up and drop off at your hotel or the harbor.

Directions to Paluang Cliff

If you’re planning to visit Paluang Cliff on your own, you’ll need to follow a specific route to get there. From the island’s central area, take the southeast road that leads you to Atuh Beach. Just before the beach, look for a small sign that indicates Paluang Cliff. Turn right and follow the winding road for about 15 minutes until you reach the parking lot.

Best Time to Visit

The best time to visit Paluang Cliff is early in the morning or late afternoon to avoid the crowds and catch the golden hour. The sunsets in Bali are magical, and watching the sunset at this cliff is a once-in-a-lifetime experience. However, be mindful of the weather, as Bali experiences a lot of rain during the monsoon season, which is from November to January.

Entrance Fee and Timings

There is a IDR 30,000 fee to visit Paluang Cliff, and the viewpoint is open from sunrise to sunset.

Experience at Paluang Cliff Viewpoint

Once you park at the parking lot in front of the cliff you only have to get down and walk a few steps to the viewpoint. The viewpoint looks at the left side of the Kelingking Beach cliff. You will usually see pictures of the right side of the cliff that looks like a dinosaur.

The viewpoint has stunning views of the coastline and the ocean. You can catch glimpses of surfers catching waves at Bingin Beach and watch the sunset over the horizon. The viewpoint is not crowded at all, and you can spend an hour here soaking in the natural beauty of Bali.

There is a wooden boat here that is used as a photography point by tourists. The boat is completely free to sit inside and take pictures. I also saw some stone structures shaped like hands you can sit on and some swings that some tourists were getting their pictures clicked at.

Pura Paluang Temple (Car Temple)

Pura Paluang temple is a small temple located near the viewpoint. It only takes 5 minutes to walk there from the viewpoint. The temple is known for its unique architecture and peaceful atmosphere. It has a really cute structure of a car at the temple!

Embon Beach

Embon Beach is a hidden gem below the viewpoint on the right side. The beach is a small pretty beach, with really deep frothy water right outside the beach. I did not try to get down to the beach and I didn’t see anyone else try either so I am not sure if there is even a way to get down here. The best way to figure out if there is a way down to Embon Beach would be to ask one of the locals at Paluang Viewpoint.

Things to Carry

You should pack for a day trip to Paluang Cliff and carry essentials such as a water bottle, sunscreen, insect repellent, sunglasses, and cotton clothing that covers up your entire bikini otherwise you are going to get very sunburnt. The hike down is very long so I don’t recommend flip flops.

Is Paluang Cliff Worth Visiting in 2023?

Yes, Paluang Cliff is worth visiting in 2023. It is an undiscovered place where very few people go so there is a very good chance you will have the place for yourself if you go early.
