Karang Boma Cliff is a beautiful cliff in southwest Uluwatu in Bali that has amazing views of the ocean at sunset. It is also known as Uluwatu Cliff. The cliff faces west and you can get gorgeous shots of the cliff, the ocean and the sunset here. You can see the UluwatuTemple on one of the other cliffs to the right from here. It is very easy to get to from Uluwatu and a great addition to the things to do in Uluwatu. Where is Karang Boma Cliff?

Karang Boma Cliff is at the southwest end of Uluwatu. It is a little further down south than the Uluwatu Temple. You can find the exact location on Google Maps

How To Get To Karang Boma Cliff

Scooter

If you’re comfortable riding a scooter, this can be a fun and affordable way to get to Karang Boma Cliff. You can rent a scooter from various rental shops in Bali for around IDR 60,000 – IDR 80,000 per day (approximately USD 4 – USD 6). Be sure to wear a helmet, and make sure your scooter is in good condition before you hit the road.

Local taxi

Taxis are widely available in Bali, and you can easily hire one to take you to Karang Boma Cliff. Gojek and Grab are two apps that are like Ubers for Bali. They can easily take you to Karang Boma Cliff.

Rent a car

Renting a car can be a comfortable and convenient option, especially if you’re traveling with a group. You can rent a car for around IDR 800,000 – IDR 1,200,000 (approximately USD 55 – USD 85) for a full day. This will include pick up and drop off at your accommodation.

Directions to Karang Boma Cliff

From Canggu

  • Start by heading south from Canggu, which is a popular coastal town in Bali, Indonesia.
  • Turn onto Jalan Raya Uluwatu, a major road that will lead you towards the southern part of Bali.
  • Follow Jalan Raya Uluwatu until you reach the intersection with Jalan Labuan Sait.
  • Make a right turn onto Jalan Labuan Sait, and continue driving on this scenic road, passing through the picturesque landscapes of the Bukit Peninsula.
  • Keep following Jalan Labuan Sait for several kilometers until you arrive at your destination, Karang Boma Cliff.
  • Once you reach Karang Boma Cliff, you will be greeted with breathtaking views of the Indian Ocean. Take some time to enjoy the stunning vistas and the natural beauty of the area.

From Uluwatu

  • Head northwest on Jalan Raya Uluwatu.
  • Take the left turn onto Jalan Labuan Sait.
  • Continue on Jalan Labuan Sait, driving through the scenic landscapes of the Bukit Peninsula.
  • Keep following Jalan Labuan Sait until you arrive at Karang Boma Cliff.
  • Once you reach your destination, you’ll be able to enjoy the stunning views of the Indian Ocean from Karang Boma Cliff. Take your time to appreciate the beauty of the surroundings.

Best Time to Visit Karang Boma Cliff

The best time to visit Karang Boma is during sunset. The cliff faces the west here which means that sunset at this place is especially beautiful. You should start at least an hour before sunset so you get here well before time to get a good shot.

Entry Fee and Timings

The entry fee to Karang Boma is IDR 10,000. I also had a drone with me and the guy asked me to pay IDR 150,000 extra for the drone so don’t mention you have a drone if you do have it. There are no proper timings for the place but it is on private property so I wouldn’t go there at odd hours. 

Things to Carry to Karang Boma Cliff

  1. Backpack: I packed a sturdy backpack to carry all my essentials for the day like sunscreen etc.
  2. Water Bottle: I made sure to bring a reusable water bottle. I filled it up before leaving and added some electrolytes as well.
  3. Snacks: I had some nuts in my bag cause it’s always fun to eat those. 
  4. Insect Repellent: To ward off any mosquitoes or bugs, I was wearing a little bit of mosquito repellant.
  5. Sunscreen: Definitely put on SPF 50 before leaving the hotel. 
  6. Camera: This is a great place to get some amazing shots and you should definitely carry your camera with you. 📸
  7. Drone: You can take some great shots from the cliff here so take your drone with you. But remember they do charge IDR 150,000 extra for the drone. 

Experience at Karang Boma Cliff

When you get to the parking lot for Karang Boma Cliff you will see a locked gate and walls in front. The way to Karang Boma Cliff is to the right of the gate on the dirt path. It’s a short walk to the cliff from here. 

When you get to the cliff you will see a panoramic view on all sides of you. If you look to your right when facing out into the ocean, you can see Uluwatu Temple two cliffs over from you. Its a great place to click pictures of this temple. 

There are no railings or anything here and the drop is very steep so be careful of your step. It’s a great experience to be able to see the sunset in Bali from such a beautiful place.

Is Karang Boma Cliff Appropriate For Small Kids?

No, Karang Boma Cliff is not an appropriate place to bring kids because of the non existent security here. You can walk right up to the cliff here and the drop is very dangerous onto some sharp rocks. There are no railings here and knowing the temperament of small kids it would be very easy for an accident to happen here. 

Is It Worth Visiting Karang Boma Cliff in 2023?

Yes. Karang Boma Cliff is one of the last viewpoints in Bali which is not yet popular. I did not even discover it until the very last second. It is getting popular recently so there might be a few people here during sunset but nothing like the crowds at other viewpoints in Bali.

Uluwatu Temple

Uluwatu Temple is a very famous and beautiful balinese temple that is visited by tourists from across the world every year. The temple has three different smaller compounds each with its own temple. They have lots of monkeys inside the temple. In the evening there are Kecak dance performances in an arena facing the ocean.

Suluban Beach

Suluban Beach is the famous cave beach in Bali that you must have seen pictures of. The beach should be visited during low tide when you can walk out from the cave onto the beach. It’s also the best surf break in Uluwatu for pro surfers so you will see advanced surfers ripping the waves on the huge waves here.

Sundays Beach Club

This is a gorgeous beach club right on the beach next to a white sandy beach in Uluwatu. The ocean in front of the beach is calm and has lots of coral for snorkeling. You can take a refreshing swim and then chill by the pool. The beach club has been ranked as one of the best in Bali so you are sure to enjoy your time. 

Dinner at Rock Bar

Rock Bar Bali is one of the most unique bars in Uluwatu. The bar and restaurant is situated on the rocks right next to the sea in Uluwatu near Jimbaran Bay. My favorite white sand beach in Uluwatu is this beautiful beach with the prettiest coast out front. They have very calm waves and lots of places to snorkel and swim. The beach is still more chill and secluded than the other beaches of Uluwatu so you won’t have to fight a crowd for a sun bed. You can drink a cocktail and relax in peace surrounded by the cliffs of Uluwatu.

Karang Boma Cliff has lots of other things to do in Uluwatu near here so you can explore those as well. Its not suitable for kids but adults will have the time of their lives clicking pictures here and enjoying the thrill.
