One of the most beautiful beaches in Bali in my opinion is Nyang Nyang Beach. The beach is on the south west coast of Uluwatu and far away from most tourist attractions that very few people come to Nyang Nyang Beach. It has the raw feel of nature that Bali became famous for all those years ago.
This is the complete guide to Nyang Nyang Beach and it includes all the information you need to visit the beach. I have added the entrance fee, timings, best place to park and what time to go to get the best out of your day.
Where is Nyang Nyang Beach?
Nyang Nyang Beach or Pantai Nyang Nyang is on the south west coast of Uluwatu. The beach faces the south west direction which makes this a great place for sunsets. You can find the exact location for Nyang Nyang Beach on Google Maps.
Tours to Uluwatu Beaches
If you prefer letting someone else plan out the details for your visit to Uluwatu then consider going on one of the tours which includes some of the most beautiful beaches and beach clubs of Uluwatu. Alternatively the full day cultural tour includes all the highlights of Uluwatu like the Uluwatu Temple, Jimbaran Bay and Padang Padang Beach.
How to Get to Nyang Nyang Beach
Scooter
If you’re comfortable riding a scooter, this can be a fun and affordable way to get to Nyang Nyang Beach. You can rent a scooter from various rental shops in Bali for around IDR 60,000 – IDR 80,000 per day (approximately USD 4 – USD 6). Be sure to wear a helmet, and make sure your scooter is in good condition before you hit the road.
Local taxi
Taxis are widely available in Bali, and you can easily hire one to take you to Nyang Nyang Beach. Gojek and Grab are two apps that are like Ubers for Bali.
Rent a car
Renting a car can be a comfortable and convenient option, especially if you’re traveling with a group. You can rent a car for around IDR 800,000 – IDR 1,200,000 (approximately USD 55 – USD 85) for a full day. This will include pick up and drop off at your accommodation.
Directions to Nyang Nyang Beach
If you type Nyang Nyang Beach into Google Maps it will show you the route to the west parking lot of the beach. The east parking lot is where you would park for Nunggalan Beach as well. Both the beaches are connected at low tide so you can park at either parking lot. At high tide the water comes in and the beaches are separated by a high cliff so you cannot cross from one beach to the other.
There are 3 parking lots at Nyang Nyang Beach. When you get to the first parking lot you will see the booth for the entrance ticket. The booth works on a donation basis so you can donate anywhere between IDR 5000 – IDR 10,000. This is a good amount for one person in Bali. All the cars have to park at the first parking lot because the way to the 2nd and 3rd parking lot is too narrow for cars to go down.
If you are on a scooter you can continue down to the 2nd parking lot. This is where most people park their scooters because the path from the 2nd to the 3rd parking lot is very steep and only expert scooter drivers should attempt it. From the 2nd parking lot it’s a 10 minute walk to the beach. After 10 minutes you will come to the 3rd parking lot that is right next to the beach.
Your Gojek person will prefer dropping you off at the 2nd parking lot. While coming back, you will have to climb all the way up the cliff because you cannot call Grab or Gojek inside the beach parking lots. You will have to go outside the first parking lot to call the cabs. This is a bit of a hike up a steep cliff so I am warning you now.
Entry Fee and Timings
There is no proper entrance fee yet because the beach is still very remote but they do ask for a donation to access the beach. A donation to IDR 10,000 is a good amount. The beach did not have any official timings written anywhere but I would suspect that they open at sunrise and close a little after sunset. The area is very remote and has strong waves so I would not recommend going there at night.
Experience at Nyang Nyang Beach
Once you get to the parking lot of Nyang Nyang Beach you will have to walk down to the beach which will take anywhere from 2 – 20 minutes depending on which parking lot you got down at. Once you get to the beach you will be at the west most corner so you can walk across the entire length of the beach and explore the area. If it’s low tide you can go around the cliff to the east and walk across to Nunggalan Beach. Nunggalan Beach has a shipwreck which is painted in really interesting colors and the graffiti makes for a good backdrop for pictures.
Warungs and beach beds
If you are tired and want to just relax on the beach, there are some warungs right off the entrance that rent day beds and umbrellas for the day. These are pretty cheap and you will be glad for the shade in the glaring Bali sun. The warungs have the usual local seafood and some veggie options with coconut and beer.
Swimming and surfiing
Swimming off Nyang Nyang Beach is a little risky because there are some powerful waves that break on this side of the island. The reef at Nyang Nyang Beach especially is very shallow.
The good part is that this makes for a great hollow wave for surfers. Surfing at Nyang Nyang is a very interesting experience. Since the wave breaks over a very shallow reef I would not paddle out at low tide unless you were a really good surfer. At high tide though you can get in the water and maybe enjoy a surf session. The warungs at the entrance also rent out a small collection of board for IDR 50,000 per hour.
Paragliding
The one thing I was not expecting to see here were paragliders in the sky above. Apparently the cliff above the beach has a paragliding school where they do this. I have never tried paragliding but it seemed like a fun experience and I would want to try it in the future. So if paragliding is something that gets you going then you can totally do that. I would assume that flying above the coast gives you an unforgettable view of the island and the cliffs.
Plane at Nyang Nyang
There is now a very ugly plane on the cliff at top of Nyang Nyang beach because some businessman from Russia decided an abandoned plane on top of the cliff was a good tourist attraction. I personally think the government of Indonesia and Bali should not be allowing such low value projects. The government is yet to realize that by allowing rampant over development they are going to end up like Phuket.
Nyang Nyang Beach FAQs
Can you swim at Nyang Nyang Beach?
Yes you can swim at Nyang Nyang Beach but I would advise only strong swimmers to get in here because the waves can get pretty rough here and the reef is very shallow at the shore.
How much is the entrance to Nyang Nyang Beach?
There is no official fee to enter the beach but you have to make some kind of donation to enter. I would recommend donating IDR 10,000 for the maintenance and welfare of the beach.
What is the best tide for Nyang Nyang?
Low tide is good for Nyang Nyang Beach if you want to walk across the cliff and explore the other side of the beach and the shipwreck. High tide is good for swimming and for non advance surfers just looking to enjoy the ocean.
Best Time to Visit
The best season to visit any beach in Bali is during the dry season from April to October. The worst time to visit would be in February and March when the rains bring all the trash to the shores of Bali. Uluwatu is much drier than Ubud or Canggu so there is a chance you might get a good sunny day in November and December also.
Things to Carry
- Water: Its hard work coming down and going up the steep cliff so have some drinks on you.
- Cash: For the warung if you want to buy refreshments or rent a day bed.
- Sunscreen: Bali sun is brutal and you will be burnt to a crisp before you even realize it.
- Towel: To dry off and relax on the beach.
- Surfboard: The surf gets good here during the dry season so you might want to bring your own surfboard.

Things To Do Near Nyang Nyang Beach
Nunggalan Beach
As I mentioned before, this beach is right next to Nyang Nyang beach and you can walk over to it during low tide. Nunggalan beach is even more secluded than Nyang Nyang beach and there is never a soul in sight here. The beach is beautiful with crystal clear blue water and huge cliffs rising above it. Don’t miss the shipwreck at the beach which makes for great photographs.
Karang Boma Cliff
Recently famous Karang Boma Cliff is a viewpoint on the west side of Uluwatu where people gather for sunsets everyday. It’s a pretty place for drone shots and landscape photography of the cliffs. From Karang Boma Cliff you can see the Uluwatu Temple to you right a few miles away.
Uluwatu Temple
This famous Hindu temple is one of the most visited tourist attractions in Bali. It is located at the edge of a cliff on the west side of Uluwatu. The temple has multiple stone structures that were constructed centuries ago. It is a brilliant architectural masterpiece. In the evening the temple has Kecak dance performances in their amphitheater overlooking the ocean.
Conclusion
