You might have heard about the pink beach in Komodo Island in Indonesia but did you know that Lombok also has a pink beach? Lombok is the island next to Bali which a lot of people add to their Indonesia itinerary when visiting Bali. On the southeast end of the island is a beautiful pink beach. The beach has a very nice hill with a viewpoint on one side and great snorkeling opportunities in the coral in the bay.

Where is Pink Beach in Lombok?

Pink Beach in Lombok is on the southeast coast of the island. It takes 2.5 hours to get here from Kuta. It’s off the beaten path and there is no paved road here for the last couple miles. Panta Tangsi sometimes gets mistaken for being the pink beach. It is not the pink beach and is very far from the actual pink beach. For the exact location of the pink beach in Lombok use Google Maps

How to Get to Lombok

By Plane

The fastest and most convenient way to reach Lombok is by air. The Lombok International Airport (LOP) is well-connected with major cities in Indonesia and other Southeast Asian countries. You can find direct flights from Jakarta, Bali, Kuala Lumpur, and Singapore.

By Boat from Sumbawa & Bali

If you are already on one of the nearby islands you can opt for a boat journey to Lombok from either Sumbawa or Bali. Sumbawa, located east of Lombok, has ferry services that will take you to Poto Tano, a town in the western part of Lombok. From Bali, you can catch a fast boat or a traditional public ferry to various ports in Lombok.

Ferry From Bali to Lombok

There are two ports in Lombok where you can disembark which are Bangsal and Senggigi. There are four ports in Bali. Only ferries from Serangan, Padang Bai and Sanur go to Senggigi. Ferries from Amed only go to Bangsal, not Senggigi.

The fast ferry takes around 1.5 to 3 hours. The slow boat takes 4 to 8 hours. You can only take your car and scooter across on the slow boat. If you book online there are tour companies that pick you up from your hotel in Bali and drop you off at the ferry for the included price.

How to Get to Pink Beach

Scooter

If you’re comfortable riding a scooter, this can be a fun and affordable way to get to Pink Beach in Lombok. You can rent a scooter from various rental shops in Bali for around IDR 50,000 – IDR 60,000 per day (approximately USD 4). Be sure to wear a helmet, and make sure your scooter is in good condition before you hit the road.

Local taxi

Taxis are widely available in Lombok, and you can easily hire one to take you to Pink Beach in Lombok. Download the Blue Bird Taxi app and you can easily hire a taxi at competitive prices.

Rent a car

Renting a car can be a comfortable and convenient option, especially if you’re traveling with a group. You can rent a car for around IDR 500,000 – IDR 800,000 (approximately USD 55 – USD 85) for a full day. This will include pick up and drop off at your accommodation.

Best Time to Visit Lombok

To make the most of your visit to Pink Beach, it is very important to choose the right time to go. Lombok enjoys a tropical climate, with warm temperatures year-round. The best time to visit is during the dry season, which falls between May and September. This period has sunny days and clear skies so you can fully enjoy the beach.

Entry Fee and Timings

There is an entry fee to access all of the white sand beaches in Lombok near Kuta. For pink beach there is an entrance fee of rupees IDR 50,000 during high season but during low season you will probably not find anyone collecting any fees there. As the beach becomes more popular it is to be expected that there will be a fee year round.

Things to Carry to Pink Beach

  • Sunscreen: Protect your skin from the tropical sun. I would also recommend wearing full sleeves clothes for the long ride. The sunscreen itself might not protect you if you are out in the sun for 2.5 hours.
  • Hat and sunglasses: Shield yourself from the glare and keep cool. aEspecially needed if it’s a sunny day and you are driving to the beach yourself.
  • Beach towels and mats: Enjoy a comfortable time on the pink sand.
  • Snorkeling gear: There is no shop that rents equipment here so you will need to take your own gear if you want to snorkel in the bay.
  • Water and snacks: Stay hydrated and energized throughout your visit. There are some local warungs here so don’t be too pressed about this.

Experience at Pink Beach in Lombok

Climb hill and sit under tree for 360 views

Once you arrive at Pink Beach, take the opportunity to climb the nearby hill and find shade under the tree here. From here, you’ll be rewarded with breathtaking 360-degree views of the beach and the waters. This spot is perfect for capturing stunning photographs.

Snorkel the coral

Then make your way down to the beach and the gorgeous water. You can get your snorkeling gear and explore the coral reef in the bay here. There are also some islands close to here where there is said to be amazing snorkeling. Gili Pasir and Gili Petelu are two islands with beautiful coral gardens. If you ask the fishermen at the beach they will be willing to take you out to the islands.

Kayak in the bay

For those seeking a more active experience, rent a kayak and paddle your way through the calm bay of Pink Beach. There are lots of pretty fishermen boats here and lots of places to get in the water and relax and snorkel. I would have loved to do this if I had more time.

Eat at the local warungs

After a day of exploration and adventure, satisfy your taste buds at the local warungs (small eateries) near Pink Beach. They have delicious Indonesian cuisine, including freshly grilled seafood and traditional dishes.

Places to Stay in Kuta, Lombok

Luxury Hotel: Neptune Studios

This is my favorite villa in Kuta. It is modern with a focus on sleek white interiors. It has a beautiful pool and outside sitting space to privately tan. It has a gorgeous bathroom with a marble tub where you can soak after a long surf session. The best part is that the beach is just 12 minutes walking from here and only a couple minutes on the scooter.

Set in the middle of the jungle as the name suggests, this is a beautiful property surrounded by nature. Their outdoor pool looks over the forest in Lombok and their restaurant is the best place to be at sunset. Their rooms are equally gorgeous with an outdoor bathroom and a marble tub.

Budget Hotel: Mana Eco Retreat

This is the perfect place for budget conscious travelers that also desire luxury. The property has a pretty pool, an outdoor yoga studio and a great restaurant. It’s the perfect place to make friends and go surfing everyday.
