The hills are getting more famous day by day because of their composition and lots of people are beginning to come to check the place out. Where is Bukit Teletubbies Hills?

Bukit Teletubbies is near the south east coast of Nusa Penida. If you rent a scooter it will take you 45 minutes to an hour to get here from the north of Nusa Penida where the ferry docks and most of the tourist attractions like Kelingking Beach and Broken Beach are located. The exact location can be found on Google Maps. The Bukit Teletubbies are a big group of hills so you can enjoy them from anywhere in that area.

How to Get to Nusa Penida

From Sanur Beach Harbor in Bali, a fast boat is available to take you to Nusa Penida. There are two other ports in Bali from where you can take a boat or ferry. The fast boats take 45 minutes and the slower ones take 1 hour to reach the Toka Pakeh harbor in Nusa Penida. There are two other ports in Nusa Penida but they are even further away towards the north east of the island.

How to Get to Bukit Teletubbies

Scooter

Nusa Penida has similar scooter rental rates like Bali. You can expect to pay somewhere around IDR 70,000 per day to rent a scooter in Nusa PEnida. The roads are a little bit more challenging than Bali so be careful if you plan on driving to Buki Teletubbies yourself. The latter part of the road right before the hills was a little broken and unpaved in parts but I have heard that this has changed recently and all roads are really good now.

Local taxi

Taxis are widely available in Bali, and you can easily hire one to take you to Bukit Teletubbies. You can find a taxi near the ferry docks when you disembark from your ferry on the north coast of the island. Lots of taxi drivers stay around that area hoping to snag a tourist for the day.

Rent a car

Renting a car can be a comfortable and convenient option, especially if you’re traveling with a group. You can rent a car for around IDR 800,000 – IDR 1,200,000 (approximately USD 55 – USD 85) for a full day. This will include pick up and drop off wherever you want.

Best Time to Visit Bukit Teletubbies

The best time to visit Bukit Teletubbies hill is the start of the day. Since there isn’t much shade around the hills, doing this hike during midday might not be very pleasant. The start and the end of the day have less sunlight and much cooler temperature.

In terms of which season is the best to visit Bukit Teletubbies you should try and visit the place during the wet season. This is because between December and April the hills turn a shade of green because of ample moisture. If you come during the dry months you will find that the hills don’t look that impressive because they are a dry yellow color.

Entry Fee and Timings

There is no entry fee for Bukit Teletubbies. I doubt they can charge for a group of hills. Anyone can access the hill from any side. There is also no timings for the same reason. You can come here anytime during the day or night to see the hills from the road.

Experience at Bukit Teletubbies

When you get to Bukit Teletubbies you can choose to see the hills from the road or get down and hike around the area. The view from both of these options is great. From the road you can see the lush rolling hill in one direction. Bukit Teletubbies looks like the Chocolate Hills in Bohol, Philippines.

If you decide to hike the hills, there are lots of paths in the shrubs that you can follow into the hills. Be sure to remember how to get back to your scooter. You can park your scooter at the side of the road and since its a pretty remote area you can be sure that it will be safe.

The best way to experience Bukit Teletubbies and get some great footage would be to fly a drone. In the rainy season when the hills are lush and green, the drone footage looks very dramatic and beautiful. You can fly the drone from anywhere in the area. You don’t necessarily have to go to the Google Maps location I pointed out.

  1. Backpack: I packed a sturdy backpack to carry all my essentials for the day like sunscreen etc.
  2. Water Bottle: I made sure to bring a reusable water bottle. I filled it up before leaving and added some electrolytes as well.
  3. Snacks: I had some nuts in my bag cause it’s always fun to eat those.
  4. Insect Repellent: To ward off any mosquitoes or bugs, I was wearing a little bit of mosquito repellant.

Things to do in East Nusa Penida

Manta Ray Snorkeling

If you love the ocean like I do then snorkeling with Manta Rays must be on top of your list. Nusa Penida has a year-round Manta population so you can see them in the water all throughout the year. The majestic creatures are very curious and come right next to you when you are snorkeling. The best place to go snorkeling with Manta Rays is Manta Bay.

If you are in Bali you can do the manta ray tour from Bali on a speedboat or you can do the manta rays tour from Nusa Penida if you are already on the island.

Conclusion

You should add Bukit Teletubbies to your itinerary when you go to visit other places in southeast Nusa Penida like Diamond Beach. It’s a great addition because you can stop at the side of the road and take pictures here without wasting time if you want to. Otherwise you can also hike into the hills and take some photos from the top of the big hill in the center.
