How to Get to Munduk
By Scooter
Renting a scooter is a popular way to get around Bali. It’s also much cheaper than any other alternative. Scooter rentals can be found throughout Bali and they cost around IDR 60,000 to IDR 80,000 (approximately USD 3.50 to USD 5.50) per day. I’ve found that longer term rentals are usually cheaper. Local taxi
For those who prefer a hassle-free journey, local taxis like Gojek or Grab are readily available in Bali. These are Ubers for Bali. You can ask for a scooter or car depending on what you prefer. Hop into one of these comfortable rides and let the driver navigate the roads while you sit back and enjoy the scenic views along the way.
Private car charter
If you prefer a more luxurious and convenient option, renting a car with a private driver is a fantastic choice. This is a great choice for people who are traveling in bigger groups. Prices for a full day rental range from IDR 800,000 to IDR 1,200,000 (approximately USD 55 – USD 85).
Directions to Munduk
From Ubud
- Start from Ubud and head north towards the town of Bedugul.
- Take the main road passing through the towns of Payangan, Tegalalang, and Kintamani.
- Continue driving north past Lake Batur until you reach the town of Bedugul.
- In Bedugul, take the road towards the village of Gobleg.
- From Gobleg, follow the signs to Munduk village.
From Lovina
- Start from Lovina and head south towards the town of Seririt.
- From Seririt, continue south towards the village of Munduk.
Best Time to Visit
Determining the perfect time to visit Munduk Waterfall is crucial to get the most out of your experience. To witness the waterfall at its grandest, you should visit during the dry season, from April to October. During this time, the rainfall is minimal and the trek is better.
Entry Fee and Timings
Each of the four waterfalls are open all day long. Each waterfall has its own entry fee.
- Labuhan Kebo Waterfall – IDR 10,000
- Melanting Waterfall – IDR 10,000
- Munduk Waterfall (aka Red Coral Waterfall) – IDR 20,000
- Golden Valley Waterfall – Free
Start at Melanting Cottages
The trek starts at Melanting Cottages (Google Maps Point) from where you will take a paved path and go under the cover of the forest. After a fifteen minute walk you will come to an intersection that has a sharp left turn. This left path goes to Labuhan Kebo and Melanting Waterfalls.
Labuhan Kebo Waterfall
The first waterfall on this path is Labuhan Kebo. There is a booth at the entry to the waterfall where you have to buy the ticket. Then there are some steep steps that take you to the bottom of the valley where the waterfall is. The waterfall itself is surrounded by rocks so you can’t get very close to it but you can take some pictures from further away. Once you are done, climb the stairs back up and continue down the same path.
Melanting Waterfall
Melanting Waterfall is at the end of this path. You will have to pay for the ticket at the entry booth and descend another longer staircase to get to this waterfall. The stairs go right up to the waterfall so you can get much closer to it. After you are done you have to walk all the way back to the intersection on the main path from where you turned left.
Munduk Waterfall
If you continue straight from the intersection you will see Munduk Waterfall. There are no stairs for this waterfall. You just have to walk for a minute from the ticket booth to get here. The pool at this waterfall is big and safe enough that you can get in for a swim if you want.
Golden Valley Waterfall
If you continue on the same road as Munduk Waterfall you will find Golden Valley Waterfall. They also have a cafe close to here which overlooks the waterfalls and has nice views.
End of Trek
The path continues on a bamboo bridge that crosses over the river that falls to make the Golden Valley Waterfall. If you keep walking down you will come out in Munduk Village further up the same road you started from. This is a car road so you can get a ride from here.

Yes, you can swim at Munduk Waterfall. The natural pool formed by the water is pretty nice to take a dip in especially after you have been walking in the hot Bali sun all day.
Is Munduk Waterfall Appropriate for Small Kids?
The trek may not be suitable for small children due to elevation and the long duration of the trek. The trail leading to the waterfall can be challenging for young kids, because there are a lot of steps you have to climb up and down.
