Welcome to the complete guide to Banyu Wana Amertha Waterfalls! If you’re up for an adventurous experience amidst nature’s beauty, this is the place for you. Banyu Wana Amertha Waterfalls, located in Munduk, in the north of Bali are one of the lesser known waterfalls in the region. Most tourists have not even heard of this waterfall. This makes it one of the nicest and cleanest waterfalls in Bali. The best thing about the Banyu Wana Amertha Waterfalls is that there are not one but four waterfalls here on the same trail!

Where are Banyu Wana Amertha Waterfalls?

Banyu Wana Amertha Waterfalls are up north of Ubud near the village of Wanagiri. The waterfall is also known as Bhuana Sari Waterfall sometimes. It takes 1.5 hours to get here from Ubud. You can find the exact location on Google Maps.

How to Get to Banyu Wana Amertha Waterfalls

By Scooter

Renting a scooter is a popular way to get around Bali. It’s also much cheaper than any other alternative. Scooter rentals can be found throughout Bali and they cost around IDR 60,000 to IDR 80,000 (approximately USD 3.50 to USD 5.50) per day. I’ve found that longer term rentals are usually cheaper. Checkout my guide to renting a scooter in Bali so you don’t get scammed like I did.

Local taxi

For those who prefer a hassle-free journey, local taxis like Gojek or Grab are readily available in Bali. These are Ubers for Bali. You can ask for a scooter or car depending on what you prefer. Hop into one of these comfortable rides and let the driver navigate the roads while you sit back and enjoy the scenic views along the way.

Private car charter

If you prefer a more luxurious and convenient option, renting a car with a private driver is a fantastic choice. This is a great choice for people who are traveling in bigger groups. Prices for a full day rental range from IDR 800,000 to IDR 1,200,000 (approximately USD 55 – USD 85).

Best Time to Visit

The best time to visit Banyu Wana Amertha Waterfalls is during the wet season. This is because one of the four waterfalls here only falls during the rainy season. It dries up during the dry season and you won’t get to see it. January to April is a great time to see all four waterfalls. You should also come early in the day when there is less chance of rain and people so you can have a nice dry walk without any disturbance.

Entry Fee and Timings

The entry fee for Banyu Wana Amertha is IDR 30,000 and IDR 2000 for parking. You can access all found waterfalls at this price. The waterfalls are open from 8am to 6pm.

Experience at Banyu Wana Amertha Waterfalls

Walk to first group of waterfalls

Once I parked the scooter at the parking lot and paid for the ticket and began walking down the stone pathway. The pathway is easy to walk on and there was a slight downward slope. After walking for twenty minutes in the middle of the vegetation you will come to a sign with the names and pictures of the four waterfalls on it. The two waterfalls to the left are the Bhuana Sari Waterfall and One waterfall. The two to the right are the Two Waterfall and the Spray Waterfall. Not very inspiring names I know.

Bhuana Sari Waterfall

I chose to go down to the left first because these ones were closer. You will have to descend some pretty steep stairs on both sides after this point. Another ten minutes walking and I found the first waterfall next to the bridge. You can take pictures on the bamboo bridge with the waterfall in the background.

The second one was the Bhuana Sari Waterfall which looks much bigger in photos than they actually are. The actual waterfalls are pretty small and fall into three shallow step pools.

Biggest waterfall in the area

After this I walked up to go to the waterfalls on the right side. The twin waterfall comes first and it’s a nice waterfall. If you keep walking you will find the biggest waterfall out of all four. The Spray Waterfall is named such because it has a lot of mist from the force of the water falling down from the rocks. There are lots of streams falling down covering the entire wall of rock. The locals really love this place and there were a few of them even early in the morning.

If you prefer not to hike all the way back up you can ask one of the locals to take you back up on a scooter from the junction point for IDR 30,000.

Things to Carry

  • Comfortable Shoes: The terrain around the waterfalls can be slippery, so it’s important to wear appropriate footwear. I would recommend water shoes because there are a few sharp rocks on the bottom of the water.
  • Towel: The spray from the largest waterfall is very strong so you might end up getting a little wet and need to dry yourself.
  • Sunscreen: Bali has very strong sun even in the rainy season so sunscreen is a must.
  • Insect Repellent: Being surrounded by nature means encountering insects, so having insect repellent will help keep them at bay.
  • Water Bottle: The walk up and down can get a bit tiring so carrying a water bottle with you is a great idea.

Can You Swim at Banyu Wana Amertha Waterfalls?

No, none of the pools are deep enough for people to be able to swim. They are all shallow ankle deep pools that you can wade through.

Are the Banyu Wana Amertha Waterfalls Appropriate for Small Kids?

Yes, these waterfalls are a great place to bring kids. The hike up and down is not very tiring and if you do get tired at the bottom there are locals with scooters that charge a small price to bring you back up on their scooters. The waterfalls are also gentle and have pools that are only a few inches deep that you can wade through. These are very safe and nice waterfalls for the kids to enjoy.
