One of the lesser known waterfalls in Bali is Suwat Waterfall. A gorgeous cascading waterfall with a reflecting pool at the bottom, Suwat Waterfall is one of my favorite waterfalls on the island. Unlike other waterfalls, this waterfall is in the middle of the dense jungle and has a vibe like nowhere else. If you want to experience this waterfall then read this entire guide for all the information including how to get to the waterfall, timings and entry fees, things to do near the waterfall and other waterfalls nearby.

Where is Suwat Waterfall?

Suwat Waterfall is located in the Gianyar regency, near Ubud. It is a 30 minute ride to the east of Ubud. You can find the exact location on Google Maps.

How to Get to Suwat Waterfall

Getting to Suwat Waterfall is a breeze, and you have a few options depending on your preferred mode of transportation. Here are three popular ways to get there:

Scooter

Renting a scooter in Bali is a convenient way to explore the island. It gives you the freedom to go anywhere as you please. Scooter rentals are available at various shops in Bali, and prices range from IDR 60,000 to IDR 80,000 per day (approximately USD 4 – USD 6). My guide to renting a scooter in Bali has all the details you need to safely rent a good scooter in Bali.

Local taxi

For those who prefer a hassle-free journey, local taxis like Gojek or Grab are readily available in Bali. These are Ubers for Bali. You can ask for a scooter or car depending on what you prefer. Hop into one of these comfortable rides and let the driver navigate the roads while you sit back and enjoy the scenic views along the way.

Private car charter

If you prefer a more luxurious and convenient option, renting a car with a private driver is a fantastic choice. This is a great choice for people who are traveling in bigger groups. Prices for a full day rental range from IDR 800,000 to IDR 1,200,000 (approximately USD 55 – USD 85).

Directions to Suwat Waterfall

From Ubud

To reach Suwat Waterfall from Ubud, start by heading east on Jalan Raya Penulisan. Continue on this road until you reach the village of Bresela. From there, follow the signs that lead to Suwat Waterfall. The journey typically takes about 30 minutes.

From Canggu

If you’re coming from Canggu, begin by heading northeast on Jalan Raya Canggu. Continue onto Jalan Raya Semat and take a slight right onto Jalan Raya Kerobokan. Keep following the road until you reach Jalan Raya Penulisan. From there, follow the signs to Suwat Waterfall. The approximate travel time is around 1 hour and 30 minutes.

Best Time to Visit

To truly appreciate the mesmerizing beauty of Suwat Waterfall, it’s recommended to visit during the dry season, which falls between April and October. During this time, the waterfall flows gracefully, showcasing its full glory. However, don’t worry if you visit during the wet season, as the waterfall’s power and lush surroundings create a unique ambiance that is equally enchanting. The waterfall is rarely visited by tourists so you can go anytime during the day and it will still be pretty empty.

Entry Fee and Timings

Suwat Waterfall is open from 8pm to 6p, daily. The entry fee to access the waterfall is IDR 15,000 per person as of March 2023.

Experience at Suwat Waterfall

When you get to the parking lot you will see the entrance to the waterfall under a bamboo structure that looks like a yeti lost his way and ended up in Bali. Once you pass under him you have to walk five minutes on concrete stairs before you get to a tiny bamboo bridge right before the waterfall.

The bridge has a sign to the left that warns tourists that the waterfall is 7 meters deep. After the bridge you will have to climb over some rocks with steps cut into them to reach the waterfall. The steps go right into the water so it’s easy to access. You can swim the entire waterfall since the pool is really big and nice. It is also covered by foliage so no direct sunlight will fall on you.

There is a huge bamboo raft tied up at the end of the pool that you can row to the middle of the pool to take pictures. There is no charge yet to take the raft out. The entire place is very peaceful and relaxing. It is a great place for families and especially inquisitive kids.

Things to Carry

To ensure a comfortable and enjoyable experience at Suwat Waterfall, here are nine essential items I always bring with me.

  • Backpack: A sturdy backpack to carry your belongings because I hate carrying everything in my arm.
  • Water Bottle: A must for your visit to Bali is a water bottle. You will lose a lot of water in the hot environment of Bali.
  • Snacks: When I am out exploring the entire day I always keep nuts and protein bars in my bag to have a quick snack when I get hungry.
  • Swimwear: Suwat Waterfall is great for swimming so get your bikini.
  • Towel: Dry off after your swim or use it as a makeshift picnic blanket.
  • Insect Repellent: Keep pesky bugs at bay and enjoy a bug-free experience by buying a repellant at any local shop.
  • Sunscreen: Protect your skin from the tropical sun’s rays that are very damaging to the skin especially in Bali.
  • Water Shoes: You can navigate slippery rocks with ease and get in the water without taking off water shoes.
  • Camera: Capture the breathtaking beauty of Suwat Waterfall and create lasting memories with your camera or a polaroid.

Can You Swim at Suwat Waterfall?

Absolutely! Suwat Waterfall has a big pool at the base which the waterfall calmly drops into. It’s one of the best waterfalls I have visited for swimming. The area is big so everyone has space to enjoy it however they like.

Is Suwat Waterfall Appropriate for Small Kids?

Yes, Suwat Waterfall is suitable for small kids, but it’s important to keep a close eye on them due to slippery rocks and the depth of the pool. The trek from the parking lot to the waterfall is just five minutes. The waterfall itself is very calm and the pool is not dangerous.

Is it Worth Visiting Suwat Waterfall in 2023?

Absolutely! The waterfall is not crowded like other bigger waterfalls and you will barely find anyone talking about it. It’s the best time to visit it in 2023 before it gets too popular.
