Now, let me warn you, if you’re not a fan of jaw-dropping views and exhilarating hikes, this might not be the place for you. But if you’re anything like me and love a good adventure, then buckle up and let’s go!
Where is Bukit Cinta?
Bukit Cinta is near the east coast of Bali. It is a little further down towards the south than Lahangan Sweet. You can find the exact location on Google Maps.
How to Get to Bukit Cinta
By Scooter
Renting a scooter is a popular way to get around Bali. It’s also much cheaper than any other alternative. Scooter rentals can be found throughout Bali and they cost around IDR 60,000 to IDR 80,000 (approximately USD 3.50 to USD 5.50) per day. I’ve found that longer term rentals are usually cheaper. Checkout my guide to renting a scooter in Bali so you don’t get scammed like I did.
Local taxi
For those who prefer a hassle-free journey, local taxis like Gojek or Grab are readily available in Bali. These are Ubers for Bali. You can ask for a scooter or car depending on what you prefer. Hop into one of these comfortable rides and let the driver navigate the roads while you sit back and enjoy the scenic views along the way.

If you prefer a more luxurious and convenient option, renting a car with a private driver is a fantastic choice. This is a great choice for people who are traveling in bigger groups. Prices for a full day rental range from IDR 800,000 to IDR 1,200,000 (approximately USD 55 – USD 85).
Directions to Bukit Cinta
From Canggu
It is a bit of a long journey to the viewpoint from Canggu. You have to start by heading towards Gianyar. Once you get there, take the road towards Klungkung and continue till you reach the village of Bugbug. Look for the sign that says “Bukit Cinta” and follow the road that goes up the hill.
From Ubud
The journey to Bukit Cinta viewpoint is a little shorter from Ubud. Head east towards the town of Klungkung and follow the same directions as above. The road is a little less windy, but still quite steep in parts.
From Amed
The viewpoint is the closest from Amed and East Bali and this is where I was staying when I visited. To get to Bukit Cinta from Amed, head south towards the town of Candidasa and then take the road towards Klungkung. Once you reach the village of Bugbug, keep an eye out for the sign that says “Bukit Cinta.” Follow the road up the hill till you reach the spot.
Best Time to Visit
The best time and season to visit Bukit Cinta viewpoint in East Bali is during the dry season, which runs from April to September. This is when you’ll have the best chance of clear skies and stunning views.
In terms of the best time of day to visit Bukit Cinta viewpoint, I recommend going either early in the morning or late in the afternoon. These times offer the best lighting for photography and are also less crowded than midday. The clouds also roll in during late morning and the afternoon and obscure the view to Mount Agung.
Entry Fee and Timing
There is no entrance fee or timings for Bukit Cinta. It’s just a spot on the side of the road and there is no one there except a few other photographers.
Experience at Bukit Cinta
When you reach Bukit Cinta viewpoint, you can expect to be greeted by some of the most breathtaking views in Bali. Bukit Cinta has two viewpoints. The first one is just down the road into the tall grass. You will see two palm trees in the distance from here.
The other higher viewpoint is 20 meters up from the road exactly opposite to the lower viewpoint and you can see the entire unobstructed view of Mount Agung from here. There were lots of creepy crawlies when I went at sunrise so be careful not to get bit.
The view is definitely one you should photograph because the composition is just perfect. I unfortunately came with a discharged iPhone and couldn’t shoot anything which was very disappointing. There were no clouds during the sunrise and I could see a clear view as far as the eye could see. The area is peaceful and serene, with the sound of the wind and the occasional chirping bird as your only soundtrack.
There are no vendors or food stalls at the top of Bukit Cinta viewpoint, so make sure to bring your own snacks and water. There is almost no one here ever!
