Ahoy, beach lovers! Are you ready to read about one of the most awesome beaches in Bali? Batu Bolong Beach is my favorite beach in Canggu and I have all the information you need for your own trip to Batu Bolong. I’ve been there, done that, and got the sunburn to prove it.

Batu Bolong Beach is one of the closest beaches to the town of Canggu and most people hang out here during the day. It’s a really lively beach with a beach bar right behind it and a beach club next to it.

It has really good waves throughout the year so a lot of surfers hang out here. At sunset you will see the most crowds because the sun sets right behind the ocean. They usually have some sort of live music playing at the steps to the beach in the evening.

There are lots of local women selling bracelets and sarongs here. The men run surf schools where you can rent a surf board of learn how to surf on the waves in front of Batu Bolong Beach.

How to Get to Batu Bolong Beach

By Scooter

Renting a scooter is a popular way to get around Bali. It’s also much cheaper than any other alternative. Scooter rentals can be found throughout Bali and they cost around IDR 60,000 to IDR 80,000 (approximately USD 3.50 to USD 5.50) per day. I’ve found that longer term rentals are usually cheaper. Checkout my guide to renting a scooter in Bali so you don’t get scammed like I did.

Local taxi

For those who prefer a hassle-free journey, local taxis like Gojek or Grab are readily available in Bali. These are Ubers for Bali. You can ask for a scooter or car depending on what you prefer. Hop into one of these comfortable rides and let the driver navigate the roads while you sit back and enjoy the scenic views along the way.

Private car charter

If you prefer a more luxurious and convenient option, renting a car with a private driver is a fantastic choice. This is a great choice for people who are traveling in bigger groups. Prices for a full day rental range from IDR 800,000 to IDR 1,200,000 (approximately USD 55 – USD 85).

Best Time to Visit

The best time to visit is during the day, when the sun is shining, and the waves are pumping. The surf is consistent throughout the day, so you can catch some waves no matter what time you go. However, if you’re not a fan of crowds, it’s best to avoid weekends and public holidays. The beach can get quite crowded, and finding a spot for your towel can be a challenge.

Entry Fee and Timings

The beach is open 24 hours a day and there is no entry fee. If you want to park at the parking lot next to the beach it costs IDR 2000.

What is Jalan Pantai Batu Bolong?

Jalan Pantai Batu Bolong is the main road that runs parallel to Batu Bolong Beach. It’s a busy street lined with a variety of boutique shops, restaurants, cafes, and bars. Jalan Pantai Batu Bolong is the most interesting street in Canggu with local vendors, spas, yoga studios, boutique shops, and clubs alongside it. The name “Jalan Pantai Batu Bolong” translates to “Batu Bolong Beach Road” in Indonesian.

Snorkel with Manta Rays Tour

Nusa Penida has some of the most amazing snorkeling with Manta Rays. Tours go to Manta Bay and Crystal Bay to swim with manta rays that come right up to you. Manta Rays are huge 5 meter long marine animals that gently glide along in the water. Swimming with them is one of the most memorable experiences of my life.

If you are in Bali you can do the manta ray tour from Bali on a speedboat or you can do the manta rays tour from Nusa Penida if you are already on the island.

Surfing at Batu Bolong Beach

Surfing is the main attraction at Batu Bolong Beach, and for good reason. The waves are consistent, and the water temperature is just right. If you’re a beginner, you can rent a surfboard and take lessons from one of the many surf schools on the beach. Renting a board costs IDR 50k and a surf lesson costs IDR 300k.

If you’re an expert, you can show off your skills and catch some big waves further out or you can stick on the inside and catch the white waters. A word of caution: there are a lot of newbies at Batu Bolong Beach so be careful of flying boards.

Surf Rentals and Surf Lessons

  • Board Rental for 2 hours – IDR 50,000
  • Surf Lesson – IDR 300,000

If you’re a beginner, there are plenty of surf schools on the beach that offer rentals and lessons. The cost varies depending on the duration of the lesson and the type of board you choose. But don’t worry, it won’t break the bank. The instructors are also friendly, patient, and know how to teach even the most uncoordinated people.

Swimming at Batu Bolong Beach

If you’re not a fan of surfing, you can still enjoy the water at Batu Bolong Beach. But beware because it is very dangerous to swim here. There is a massive shore break and waves thunder on the beach. The waves are powerful, and the currents inside are very strong. Kids can definitely not swim at this beach.

Amenities

Batu Bolong Beach has plenty of amenities to make your beach day comfortable and enjoyable. There are sun beds and umbrellas for rent if you want to relax under the shade. The locals rent these at an affordable price. The cost varies depending on the vendor, but it’s usually around $5 for a sun bed and $2 for an umbrella. There are also vendors selling cold drinks, coconut water, snacks, bracelet and henna at the beach.

There is a shower you have to pay for at the end of the parking lot. If you get a lot of sand in your hair during surfing then you can pay the IDR 5000 to take a quick shower here.

What To Pack For The Beach

Bali has very hot and humid beaches so I always carry the following things.

  • Sunscreen: Make sure to bring a high SPF sunscreen to protect your skin.
  • Swimsuit and Towel: It is completely fine to wear bikinis at the beaches in Bali. Get a towel as well if you don’t plan on renting a sun bed.
  • Hat and Sunglasses: Protect your face and eyes from the sun which can be very very intense even in the shade.
  • Water and Snacks: You can find these at the beach but I prefer carrying my own water with Himalayan salt.
  • Cash: Make sure to bring cash because all vendors on the beach only accept cash.

Bars and Cafes

  • Old Man’s
  • The Lawn Beach Club
  • LowCal Cheatery

It is absolutely blissful when after a long day of surfing you can just walk over to a great bar or restaurant and eat some french fries. Luckily, Batu Bolong Beach has so many amazing bars and cafes where you can do just that. One of the most popular spots is a beachfront bar and live music place called Old Man’s. They serve cold beers, cocktails, and tasty food. It’s the perfect place to watch the sunset since it faces the ocean on the west side. One of my favorite cafes – LoCal Cheatery – is also a two minute ride away from the beach.

Batu Bolong Beach Clubs

Batu Bolong Beach is surrounded by some of the best beach clubs in Bali. These are perfect for the day time when you want to chill with a day bed near a pool and also at nighttime when you want to party.

Finns Beach Club

When I visited Finns Beach Club on my last trip to Bali, I was blown away by the infinity pool with sunset views of the ocean. The club has a relaxed and bougie atmosphere, filled with influencers. They had comfortable day beds and a range of food and drink options.

I loved sipping on a chilled green juice while lounging by the pool. The DJs playing throughout the day are mad cool. The prices were a bit higher than other beach clubs in the area, but the experience was definitely worth it.

If you’re looking for a luxurious and stylish beach club in Bali, then Finns Beach Club is a great choice.

La Brisa

I fell in love with the pretty decor at La Brisa. This has been featured so many times on some of the influencers I follow that I knew it would be cool. The beach club has a bohemian-inspired decor, with recycled boat pieces and colorful umbrellas. They also have a market every Sunday that was going on near the entrance.

The food and drink options are fantastic, with fresh seafood, and interesting cocktails. The music was also great, with a range of international DJs playing throughout the week and at night if you like to party.

If you’re looking for a beach club with a fun and chill atmosphere, then La Brisa is the perfect choice. They also have very reasonable prices that won’t break your bank.

The Lawn

The Lawn is a beautiful beachfront club, located right on Batu Bolong Beach. You can see the club when you are surfing out in the ocean. I loved lounging on the comfortable bean bags and umbrellas, soaking up the sun and working on this blog.

The club also has a great restaurant and bar, which serves delicious food and drinks. I highly recommend trying the Indonesian specialties, such as nasi goreng and satay. The prices were cheap for Bali, making it a great option if you want to spend the day here with a group of friends.

The atmosphere at The Lawn is relaxed and friendly, with a mix of locals and tourists enjoying the Bali beach lifestyle. If you’re looking for a beach club with a great location and delicious food, then The Lawn is the perfect choice.
