Okay, maybe not literally a hop, skip, and a jump, but you get the idea. It’s only 22 km away from Ubud, which is a quick drive or a fun scooter ride away.

Before I get into the nitty-gritty details, let’s talk about what makes Gitgit Waterfall so special. First of all, the name itself is so fun to say, “Gitgit.” Go ahead, say it out loud, I won’t judge. Second, the waterfall is tucked away in a lush green jungle, which makes it feel like a hidden gem. So dive into this complete guide to Gitgit Waterfall in Bali.

Where is Gitgit Waterfall?

There are two waterfalls that have the same name near Ubud. On Google Maps one is named Gitgit and the other one Git Git. Gitgit Waterfall (Google Maps) is the one with the really tall waterfall and Git Git Twin Waterfall (Google Maps) is the one that has two waterfalls falling side by side. Make sure you go to the one you want.

How to Get to Gitgit Waterfall

There are lots of options to get to Gitgit Waterfall from any of the cities. If you want to be a true adventurer, rent a scooter and drive yourself! Just make sure you’re comfortable with driving in Bali’s busy roads.

Scooter

Renting a scooter is a popular and cheap way to explore Bali. You can rent a scooter for a day, which typically costs around IDR 60,000 – IDR 80,000. I usually found that if you rented for a longer time the price tended to be lower.

Local taxi

Private taxis are widely available in Bali, and you can easily hire one to take you to Gitgit Waterfall. You can also use Gojek or Grab. These are Ubers in Indonesia. You can choose to ride on a scooter behind the driver. I am sure the drivers accept rides on scooters from Ubud to Gitgit Waterfall.

Rent a car and driver

Renting a car can be a comfortable and convenient option, especially if you’re traveling with a group. You can rent a car for around IDR 800,000 – IDR 1,200,000 (approximately USD 55 – USD 85) for a full day. This will include drop off and pick up for your car at your hotel and they include the cost for the drivers.

Directions to Gitgit Waterfall

From Ubud

  1. Start by heading north towards Bedugul on Jalan Raya Singaraja.

  4. Follow the road for about 500 meters until you reach the entrance to the waterfall area.
  5. Park your vehicle at the designated parking area and then take a short walk to reach the waterfall.

Best Time to Visit

The dry season from April to September is the best time to visit Gitgit Waterfall because the water flow is less intense, and the weather is sunny and nice. However the dry season is also the peak tourist season and the waterfall will be very crowded.

During the rainy season from October to March the waterfall is at its most powerful and all the vegetation is green and blooming. This has its own charm as well!

Entry Fee and Timings

The Gitgit Waterfall is open to visitors from 8am to 4pm every day. So, wake up early, grab a coffee or tea from one of the many cafes in Ubud, and head on over to the waterfall. The entrance fee is IDR 20,000 per person.

Experience at Gitgit Waterfall

There is no hike to get to the waterfall. As soon as you get to the parking lot you will be able to see the waterfall in front of you. The waterfall is huge and you will get soaked with the mist if you get too close. The waterfalls first falls into a big pool and then the water flows into other pools. You can go swim at any of these pools. Its quite a fun experience.

  1. Comfortable Water Shoes: I always carry water shoes when going in any water places where I cant see the bottom.
